The spring rains held off and the spring sun shone for the BIS Spring Charity Garden Party, held at the Primary campus on 24 May.
The Garden Party atmosphere was enhanced by the casual layout of the venue with the emphasis on entertainment. There were the usual favourites – a fashion parade, this year featuring traditional Pakistani clothes; songs by children from the Primary School; a musical item by Fiona and Maggie from Year 8, as well as a delightful display of dancing by young children dressed in traditional Serbian costumes, and energetic Salsa dancing by a local dance group.
For the children there were games and workshops like bouncy castle, face painting, pottery workshop, “little electrician”, sport poligons and many more. There was a variety of international cuisines for sale under colourful umbrellas – National food stall, donated by parents, Lebanese, Japanese, Indian and other Asian delicacies, that tempted the strictest weight watcher. Background music increased the festive mood. Still, no Garden Party would be complete without HATS. We invited all the ladies to wear a hat of their choice for the event and awarded the most interesting one.
Annual favourite of BIS charity events was the raffle draw with some outstanding prizes, this year including a week in Greece, a weekend in Kopaonik, a weekend in Vrdnik and vouchers for meals at exclusive restaurants, and many more. There were also baskets filled according to theme by each class in the school.
The proceeds from the event were donated to the Children’s Shelter, Zvecanska.
In the aftermath of the catastrophic flooding that has occurred in many parts of the country, on the day of the Garden Party, BIS acted as a collection and distribution point for donated items to help those in need.
