On Saturday, 22nd May the BIS school community together with numerous visitors enjoyed our school’s traditional Spring Charity Bazaar. The proceeds of the Bazaar this year went to the “Kremen” horse riding club from Pancevo which specialises in hippo therapy for children with special needs. Despite the weather forecast, we had a beautiful sunny day, and everyone enjoyed themselves in the shade of the trees at our Primary campus in Uzicka.
This year the Bazaar had more participants than ever, and the youngest children enjoyed the fun of a bouncy castle which was provided by Pro Credit Bank.
The entertainment was also more varied and more interesting than ever before. The Malaysian Embassy culture group in their colourful costumes presented us with an appealing set of Malaysian dances. The Capoeira group which has traditionally been present at our Bazaars was there this time as well, and some of the BIS students learning Capueira had the opportunity to show their skills. This year, for the first time, we had the pleasure of hosting the “Abrasevic” culture group with sixty dancers split into three age groups – children, teenagers, and adults. Each age group was in a different costume featuring three different parts of Serbia. Their Serbian folk dances, accompanied by a music orchestra were a real joy for the visitors.
The peak of the event, of course, was the raffle. In addition to numerous baskets, and toys which were donated by courtesy of BIS parents and Pro Credit bank, as well as numerous other prizes, we had carton boxes of apples donated by Golden Garden from Subotica, a Branch for two persons donated by Hyatt hotel, seven days at a villa in Hvar Croatia donated by Mrs. and Mr. Sorensen, and seven days in Pefkohori Greece donated by Mrs. and Mr. Vukovic from Sim Tours.
I would like to thank all members of our school community as well as the representatives of various companies who took the time and effort to make our 2010 Spring Charity Bazaar a success.
